You want school with that?
The world has changed a lot in the last few years, but some teachers seem not to have noticed. A guy I know (another teacher) made this video to show his teaching colleagues, who he thinks are not really “getting it”.
video
Take a look at the video and leave me a comment on your reaction to it. Do you think he has a valid point? Do you agree or disagree with his point of view? What do you think about his video?

I definitely think whoever made tthis has a point. I totally agree that the world has changed in the last little while. I mean, Im growing up with DVD, Ipods, laptops, and HDTV while my parents grew up with the black and white television, a record player, and VHS. (I swear, my parents arent that old!!). The world is so much more dependent on technology than even 20 years ago, when my older cousin was growing up. I think his video really does depict our world today, and kind of sheds a light on where its going.

wow I thought that video was very interesting. I do definitly think he has a point and that he has proven it through this video. I knew the world has changed in many ways, but i never really relized how much until I watched this. I thought it was great!

Thanks for your comments girls, (where are the guys?)
What really struck me when I saw it was not just that the world has changed - that’s a given. It’s more that the world has changed, but that THE WAY SCHOOLS PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THIS NEW WORLD HAS NOT CHANGED ENOUGH.
Unfortunately, many classrooms still operate the same way they did in your parents generation. I think that this is short changing the students who sit in these classrooms, by not recognising that the skills and knowledge these students need will be outside the realm of what a traditional classroom is able to offer…
You can’t possibly prepare for a rapidly changing future if you refuse to change the way things have always been done.
Tell me… What do you think is the Most Important Thing that students in today’s schools should be learning?

Heh, very informative and thought provoking, and he did it all with song and pictures ^^. yea, it does make sense, like for example, how can we prepare for a world of computers when we’re forced to use thoose slow dells, and because of being slow im sure it restricts quiet a bit of things and makes teaching in a computerized world with slow almost unable computers very hard. also, alot of teachers say “oh well you have to teach yourself, we cant teach you everything.” i disagree with that, in how the world is in today, students i dont think will take things likely (cant say i aint guilty lol..) and they wont study or learn anything, and then when they go to leave off for work, they wont know what they are supposed to do. i think its because they believe computers will automatically do the teaching for them. the most important thing i would say to be learning in schools would be is to how to work with acutal intrusments thats used in the real world as well as actually doing the real thing instead of pretending to do it, calling it practice. since the future is going to be more into computers, teach people how to work a computer inside and out.
